Transitions Peer Recovery Specialist

Hours: Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., flexible
Salary: $13.00 - $14.15 per hour (DOE). Will be eligible for a one and two year step increase, depending on satisfactory performance

The person in this position will provide peer support and peer education services to clients on the Transitions Caseload. The Transitions program is targeted to persons who have been in and released from the County Jail, have a lengthy legal history, have a mental health diagnosis and are in need of specialized services. The person in this position will be expected to use one's own recovery experience to teach and model effective coping and recovery techniques, teach self-help strategies, be a client advocate and teach clients how to effectively use of community resources and natural supports. This person should have at least a year of recovery in their own wellness program. This person will receive training from Via Hope within the first year of employment for Peer Specialist Certification.

This position requires heavy client contact, contact with client's families and referring agencies. It also requires the ability to work under pressure, maintain good personal boundaries, and sometimes handle stressful situations in a professional manner.


Must have direct personal experience and history of legal involvement with probation, parole or incarceration with successfully completing the supervision and living with mental illness and in recovery and managing own wellness. High school diploma or a high school equivalency certificate issued in accordance with the law of the issuing state. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be an insurance driver through the Center Insurance carrier. Must demonstrate competency in provision of rehab services. If not already a credentialed Peer Provider, a person hired for this position must complete peer provider credentialing within one year.
