Wagstaff LLP is a law firm in Abilene and has an immediate opening for a full-time Legal Assistant to work for one or more attorneys whose practice areas are personal injury, contracts and business disputes, real estate, insurance defense, and numerous types of litigation. Legal experience is preferred, but not required. Experience in drafting and editing documents, proofreading, and client communication is essential. The candidate must also have strong typing and editing skills and be highly proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe.  The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and able to work independently in a demanding environment, as well as work professionally and effectively with attorneys and other staff members.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • General administrative work including answering phones, filing documents, receiving incoming mail, preparing shipping, maintaining attorneys’ calendars, managing office events and meetings, and other ad hoc projects
  • Maintain calendars and schedules
  • Draft and edit various legal documents
  • Prepare reports and correspondence
  • Analyze legal documents for accuracy
  • Organize files and coordinate records and minor legal research
  • Client communication
  • Prepare pleadings, motions and discovery requests and responses
