ABOUT THE ABILENE CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU
The Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) serves as the official destination marketing organization for the city of Abilene. The ACVB provides direct leadership and administration of the Convention and Visitors Bureau in its mission to generate economic growth for the City of Abilene by marketing and promoting Abilene as a competitive meeting, event, leisure, and sports destination and by supporting tourism development to expand the hospitality industry in Abilene.
An affiliate of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit 501(c)(6).
Funded through 50% hotel occupancy tax.
ACVB staff consists of eight fulltime personnel.
The ACVB board of directors consist of five (5) member executive committee; fifteen (15) elected directors, serving three-year terms; twelve (12) designated members; three (3) ex-officio members and an Advisory Council of past chairpersons.
Oversees the Abilene Sports Alliance and Abilene CenterStage.
ACVB budget is approximately $1.7 million annually.
Vice President Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct administration of the Convention and Visitors Bureau through development of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the ACVB.
Organize and oversee the implementation of the CVB Strategic Plan, which includes planning and supervising programming initiatives, developing annual operating and marketing plans, developing, and monitoring budgets, and identifying appropriate industry benchmark performance measures.
Plan, formulate and recommend for approval the annual budget and program of work.
Plan and implement direct sales and marketing programs and services; evaluate results and recommend actions to achieve program goals for the ACVB.
Ensure the expenditure of the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funds are compliant with state laws.
Implement advocacy programs to educate and enlist the support of leadership in the promotion of convention and tourism initiatives.
Establish effective communication to ensure consistent and collaborative flow of information with the community, industry, government, business leaders, volunteers, convention and event planners, stakeholders, and media.
Present information, analyses, and recommendations to the board for decision-making or approval.
Generated and submit accurate reporting to the ACVB and Chamber boards and City Council.
Develop, maintain, and enforce effective organizational policies, guidelines, laws, and ethical standards and ensure all CVB activities are implemented within them.
Represent the ACVB and the industry at local, state, national and international meetings, events and associations.
Develop programs, and identify markets, to strategically and aggressively secure meetings, conventions and visitors.
Provide necessary equipment, tools and developing to the ACVB staff to accomplish goals and objectives.
Oversee the day-to-day operations and administration of the Bureau and its programs and policies.
Provide direction and assistance in convention solicitation, convention planning, registration, housing and other general areas as is necessary to extend good will and hospitality to visitors and convention delegates.
Execute presentations for bids, exhibits, and civic groups.
Represent the ACVB at key industry functions, events, and meetings at city and county council.
Develop relationships with other economic development organizations.
Develop, coordinate, and implement financial strategies and programs that maintain the fiscal integrity of the ACVB.
Oversee design and content of ACVB literature, website and communications.
Monitor legislative issues affecting the Abilene travel industry.
Oversee the development, implementation and documentation of day-to-day financial transactions, review, and approve all expenditures.
Maintain accurate records and monitoring the progress of ACVB’s programs and projects.
Supervising all staff and their assigned duties.
Manage human resources related to ACVB staff and, including performance reviews and MBO’s.
Develop individual, team and accountability goals for staff.
Hiring and firing of employees.
Media liaison as the voice of the tourism industry.
Approve all requests for staff vacations and leaves of absence and maintaining accurate records.
Assist in the recruitment and motivation of volunteers.
Serve on appropriate community committees and boards.
Manage external communication in order to obtain maximum publicity of programs and accomplishments.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with Chamber Board, ACVB board, media, city and county officials.
Maintain accreditation with Destinations International.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President of the Chamber and/or ACVB Board of Directors.

IDEAL EDUCATION, BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an academic institution or equivalent industry related education/accreditation.
Five years DMO leadership experience highly preferred, though a similar role and proven track record of meetings, conventions and sports solicitation, sales and management, industry related marketing experience will be considered.
Proven management experience.
Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills.
High level of technology proficiency.
Demonstrated collaboration with volunteer boards, elected officials, and the public.
A complete understanding of marketing, public relations, communications, social media and analytics.
Ability to solve practical problems. Must exercise judgment and discretion in the performance of duties.
Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on client and office demands.
KEY PRIORITIES FOR THE FIRST 12 MONTHS
Develop strong confidence and credibility with ACVB stakeholders and partners (ACVB Board of Directors, hoteliers, restaurants owners/managers, venue operators, economic development partners, Abilene Regional Airport, area & regional attractions, and city and county leaders).
Develop strategies to effectively market and secure meetings, conventions, special events and sports events that result in increased hotel occupancy.
Develop a strategy to educate the community and its stakeholders on the role of a CVB and its importance as a hospitality leader and economic development organization.
Become active and visible in the state and national tourism industry.
Establish strong collaborative relationship with the Expo Center, Dodge Jones Youth Sports Complex, Convention Center and event venues.
Implement goals in the strategic plan.
Develop monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals and establish accountability/metrics on net revenue and room nights.
Develop short and long-term strategic plans.
Encourage leadership development with performing team members.
Monitor all sales, marketing and advertising programs to quantify ROI.
Maintain accreditation with Destinations International.
